Rude response from manager before we even got there
A friend in Lae suggested we check Mavra Lodge next time we visit. We visit Lae a couple of times a year and wanted to find an alternative to the usual over-priced hotels. After 3 phone calls (expensive from Australia) and 3-4 emails asking some basic questions about the security of the hotel, restaurant on site etc, which went unanswered, I got through by phone to Venita who politely answered and said she'll make the booking and send a menu as we were getting in around 7pm and we needed to pre-order. Still no email replies, even 3 days before our trip, nor email confirmation or payment information. I wrote asking again for the information and said if they were not interested in my business please let me know. Well the manager Ms Nicholas found her email fingers, and suggested I look elsewhere. I called her and asked if it was a problem to give me the information I needed. She took offence to my asking about security and again repeated that she had advised her daughter to reply in the manner she did, and yes I should look elsewhere. I don't think it was unreasonable to ask about security in a place like Lae. However, Ms Nicholas, I will not be contacting your lodge again and hope your business is doing well because clearly good customer relations is not your priority. We are happy to have learnt this before getting to Lae, so thank you for showing me your poor attitude to potential customers.
